Reading Together
California Campuses and Communities
Connect Through America Reads

In a crisis of such proportions, we need a response of equal magnitude. And we may well have found it in America Reads.

Reading Together is a report written with support of the James Irvine Foundation describing research findings from a survey of America Reads programs in California conducted during the Summer of 1999 by the America Reads/Counts Challenge office housed at San Francisco State University.

Reading Together: California Camuses and Communities Connect Through America Reads

The findings show that California institutions gave over 1.6 million hours of reading help to children over three semesters. Highlights from the report include:
Tutors increased significantly over the three semester period

The number of children tutored rose by 127% during the three semester period
