SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION

The admission process begins with completion of an application packet.  All documents must be submitted or the application cannot be processed.  Please note that all documents not written in English must be accompanied by an official translation. Original copies must be submitted, not faxes or photocopies.

The application packet checklist follows.  Do not submit your packet to the AMBA office until all items on the checklist have been completed and inserted into the self-managed application envelope.

q    California State University Domestic Admissions and Information Application

Complete the entire application, parts A and B. Check “Off-Campus Center” on the top of page 1.

The program code for AMBA is 05011.

In Part B, under "Standardized Admission Tests," indicate when you took the GMAT (and TOEFL exam for international applicants).

q    Check or Money Order in the amount of US$55, payable to SFSU.

q    Transcripts and Diploma

·      If you have courses in progress, send current transcripts.

·      If you have taken extra courses since your last degree and would like those credits counted, send the appropriate transcript and  list those courses on your application.

·      Please note that all documents not written in English must be accompanied by an official English translation. Original copies must be submitted; faxes or photocopies will not be accepted.

q       GMAT Score Report

·      Applicants must request two copies of their GMAT results.

·      One copy should be mailed directly to the applicant and inserted, unopened, into the self-managed application packet that is mailed to the AMBA office.

·      The second copy of the test results is sent directly to SFSU from Educational Testing Service, as requested by the applicant on the test date, or by email or phone request after the test. SFSU's GMAT code number is 4684.

·      All applicants must take the GMAT. If the test was taken more than once, the Program Director will use the highest score.

We sometimes allow applicants to submit an AMBA application before they take the GMAT. In that case, the applicant must indicate the scheduled test date on the application.

q       Resume

·      This should be an updated resume listed with your professional experiences, academic achievements etc.

q       Letter of Intent (also called Statement of Purpose)

·      Applicants must request two copies of their TOEFL results.

SFSU's TOEFL code number is 4683.

·      The TOEFL test must have been taken within the past 2 years.

·      Photocopies are not accepted.

·      If you graduated from a university in a country where English is the native language, you do not have to take TOEFL.

·      Optional. Letters should be from past or current employers. There is no standard format; no more than 2 are necessary.

APPLICATION EVALUATION

When all the above documents have been received and processed, the applicant's file is transferred to and assessed by the university evaluator. International transcripts are evaluated according to information compiled by NAFSA, including the accreditation of the institution, the equivalent of the degree to a US 4-year bachelor's degree, the grading system as related to the U.S. system, and other criteria. The GPA is evaluated as plus or minus the US standard of 2.7.

To check your application status:

·      Call the AMBA Office at 415-405-3692 and leave a message with your name (spelled), student ID#, telephone number, and email address.

·      Or check online: https://www.sfsu.edu/online/appstat.htm

The AMBA Program Director reviews only the completed, evaluated files returned from the university evaluator.  Applicants may be asked for phone or in-person interviews.  The Director will make final decisions on all applications.

ADMISSION NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE

When applicants are accepted, they are notified by:

1.    The University, which sends an "Official Notice of Admission" and a Certificate of Eligibility for international students.

·      AMBA students do not need to do anything on the registration documents from the University, and should not pay tuition fees through regular university. The AMBA program uses a separate registration system with College of Extended Learning (CEL), which will be explained in detail in the “Welcome Packet” once an AMBA applicant is admitted to the program.

2.    The Accelerated MBA Office, which sends a "Welcome Packet" with information on advising, new student orientation, an invoice for fees, textbook list and order forms, and further advice in preparing for the first term of study.
