The College of Ethnic Studies Digital Archive
The College of Ethnic Studies invites you to a presentation of the college’s new digital archive. The archive project began in 2008 to record the oral histories of veterans from the 1968 student-led strike and will expand to include the history of the early founding of the College of Ethnic Studies. Join us for inspiring video and panel presentations, moderated by Roger Alvarado.

How To Teach Hamlet to a Generation of Non-readers
Join Bruce Avery ’84, Shakespearean Scholar and SF State English Professor, as he discusses thechallengesand offers some practical solutions to teaching Shakespeare to a generation of non-readers. A generation ago, the average college student read for pleasure more than ninety minutes a week. Today, college students read for pleasure, on average, less than sevenminutes per week. Professor Avery will present valuable techniques learned over his 15 years teaching Shakespeare at SF State to engage students in situations where complex text is read and analyzed. Discover how some of these techniques are derived from Shakespeare’s own Elizabethan theater practices.
Professor Bruce Avery graduated with a BA in English from SF State in 1984. He earned aMA at the University of Connecticut and a PhD at UC Santa Cruz. He has been teaching Shakespeare at SF State since 1994.

Public Law in the Age of Obama
Join the Department of Political Science and fellow alumni for an afternoon mixer and talk featuring department professors Martin Carcieri and Michael Graham. Professor Carcieri will speak about the war on drugs and legal rights, and will lead a general discussion focusing on the teaching and practice of public law in San Francisco. Several emeriti professors, including Gene Weinstein, and other SF State alumni who are prominent lawyers partnering in local Bay Area law firms, will also be on hand to enliven the discussion. All are welcome to attend this informative and eye-opening event.

Strike Veterans of '68 Social Mixer
In 1968, SF State became one of the most visible, national emblems. The Black Students Union, the Third World Liberation Front, and SF State students, faculty, and staff led strikes against racial discrimination, the Vietnam War, the draft, and "irrelevant" curriculum. Join the College of Ethnic Studies and a Digital Archive Committee composed of veteran '68 strikers, Connell Persico and Steve Zeltzer, and faculty and alumni who have collected oral histories on video, in conversation with guests about use and impact of these important chronicles.
