Frank Somerville (B.A. ’83) replaces Dennis Richmond as KTVU TV news co-anchor
BECA alum Somerville, a 16-year veteran of the station, started in the business as a KTVU intern. He says of replacing Richmond, a talented, respected and popular KTVU personality for 40 years: “I sort of feel like Steve Young replacing Joe Montana….” Read more
“Hollywood Chinese”: Arthur Dong’s (B.A. ’82) new documentary spans the history of Chinese-American contribution to film
Oscar- and Emmy-nominated director Dong uses clips from more than 100 films and interviews with film icons to tell the true story of Chinese Americans in film. Read more
Honors graduate Tiffany Brooks: a role model for college-bound students transitioning out of the foster care system
The product of six foster homes, Brooks is SF State’s first Guardian Scholars Program graduate. The innovative program, a national model, offered her access to housing, food, work-study opportunities, scholarships and, most important, social and emotional support. Read more See related photos

New campus recycling innovations helped SF State surpass the City of San Francisco’s target goal, and positions the University to exceed all previous records. Read more
Four alumni honored as SF school leaders of the year
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom initiated the first annual Mayor's Principal of the Year Award last month, and four SF State alums --principals at schools ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school, were selected. Read more
