General Education

Segment 1

We divide General Education into three segments. Segment I consists of four requirements: Written and Oral Communications, Quantative Reasoning, and Critical Thinking. These are your basic subjects, two of which we have already discussed, Math and English. In order to take Math and English you need to place into them or be exempt from placement tests to qualify for them.

The other 2 requirements for Segment I, you do not need placement tests in order to add them. We want you to take one of these, either a Public Speaking or Critical Thinking in Fall. We will tell you which one you can register for at Orientation. So put one of each on your schedule for Fall.

Critical Thinking Courses:



PHIL 110
Course Description: Skills involved in understanding, criticizing, and constructing arguments--and providing foundation for further work not only in philosophy but in other fields as well.

You may take this class without a placement test. 3 units each.



Make sure to take your basic subjects in your 1st year of college: Written Communication level 1 (English 114 is the beginning), Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, Quantitative Reasoning (Math)
