Manny Mashouf earned a bachelor's degree in political science in 1966 and founded the company "bebe" 10 years later. What began as a small boutique on Polk Street in San Francisco has grown into a successful chain of stores featuring its own brand of women’s clothing and accessories. Mashouf and his wife Neda are actively involved in SFSU alumni activities and continue to support the University's strategic planning goals.

Paul Ash

Paul Ash graduated in 1984 with a degree in business administration. Executive Director of the San Francisco Food Bank for the last 16 years, Ash last year helped bring the equivalent of 50,000 meals to hungry San Franciscans each day throughout the year. During Ash's time at SFSU, he would meet his future wife, then-classmate Sylvia Fernandez in his Operations Analysis class.

Glen Charles

Glen Charles, television legend and eight-time Emmy Award winning co-creator of "Cheers," earned his master’s degree in English in the late 1960s. Charles also worked behind the scenes of such classic television shows including "Taxi," "The Bob Newhart Show," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "M*A*S*H."

Malou Nubla, graduated in 1991 with a degree in radio and television. The two-time Emmy award winner is also the co-host of CBS 5's "Evening Magazine." Nubla recalls how the SFSU student body was truly civic-minded and engaged, and was inspired to get more involved in campus life. Nubla would later serve as president of the Filipino student organization on campus, and credits her broadcast classes and former professors with helping her build a successful career as a journalist.

Republican Congressman Bill Thomas earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in social science in the 1960s.Thomas said that his job is to take people's needs and wants and put them together "like little broken pieces of tiles." "Without having come here and being able to see the diversity [at SFSU]," says Thomas, he feels he would have most likely missed out on a valuable lesson. "It's an understanding that probably could not have been perfected had I remained in Orange County," he said, "because when you collect a bunch of pieces of broken white tile, the mosaic is not quite as colorful as the one I learned to build here."
