Registration>Register for Classes: Only students admitted to San Francisco State University are eligible to register for classes. Anyone who is not formally admitted to the University may participate in university classes on a space available basis through the College of Extended Learning (CEL). Please contact the College of Extended Learning directly for information regarding their registration procedures. Admitted students may register for classes via Gator Reg at www.sfsu.edu/student or by calling Gator Reg at (415) 338-7000. If you need help, call the Gator Reg Helpline at (415) 338-3333. BEFORE YOU REGISTER CHECKLIST: Students may register for classes on the Web or via a Touch Tone Phone. Before registering for classes, be sure you have done the following:
UNIT LIMITS DURING PRIORITY/OPEN REGISTRATION: During Priority Registration (see Registration Schedule for dates), Undergraduate and Second BA students may register and/or wait list for up to 16 units. After the last day of Priority Registration (see Registration Schedule for dates), Undergraduates and Second BA students may register and/or wait list for up to 19 units during Open Registration periods (see the Priority/Registration Schedule for dates and times). Graduate students are limited to 16 units during Priority and Open Registration. SUMMER SEMESTER: Undergraduate students may enroll in a maximum of seven (7) units in a five-week summer session, eleven (11) units in the eight-week summer session, and fourteen (14) units in any combination of summer semester sessions (R1, R2, and R3). Graduate students may enroll in a maximum of six (6) units in a five-week summer session, nine (9) units in the eight-week summer session, and twelve (12) units in any combination of summer semester sessions (R1, R2, and R3). Return to Top UNIT LIMITS FOR STUDENTS ON ACADEMIC PROBATION: All undergraduate and second baccalaureate students on academic probation will be limited to a maximum of 13 units of enrollment during fall and spring semesters, (excluding summer semester). This means, that because you have a SFSU or All College GPA less than 2.0 you are on Academic Probation and you may only enroll in a maximum of 13 units for the Fall or Spring semester. Return to Top DROPPING CLASSES: Classes may be dropped via Gator Reg starting from the Priority Registration date listed on your Registration Time until the Drop Deadline. After the Drop Deadline, a withdrawal form must be completed. See the Registrar's Counter at the One Stop Student Services Center (SS 101) or go to the forms page for more information. Return to Top ADDING CLASSES AFTER INSTRUCTION BEGINS: Once the first day of instruction begins (see the Registration Calendar for exact day), you must obtain a Permit Number from the instructor to add a class. Using the Permit Number, you must add the class via Gator Reg. Return to Top WAIT LISTING: Some classes have limited waiting lists. To add your name to an available waiting list on the PHONE, press the 9 key on your phone. You may also choose the wait list option on the Gator Reg web site. Students who are wait listed will be automatically added to those classes when space becomes available. Automatic adding will take place each evening after Open Registration. It will occur only if space is available and you are eligible to be added into a class. To be eligible, you must pay sufficient fees, not exceed the maximum number of units allowed, and not have any registration holds. IMPORTANT NOTICE: It is the responsibility of each student to drop courses by published deadlines. This includes courses automatically added from waiting lists. Return to Top ACTION CODES: Action Codes are one digit numbers that tell Gator Reg what registration action needs to be done. For Example: Press the 2 key to ADD a class. After you enter your PAC #, Gator Reg will ask for an Action Code. An Action Code will also be requested after you add or drop a class (in the event you wish to do something else). PRESS the # key twice on your phone to hear the complete list of all Registration Action Codes or refer to the list below.

Return to Top GLOSSARY OF TERMS: Course Schedule Number: A five digit number needed to register for a class. Course schedule numbers are listed in the current class schedule . All courses offered are searchable via the on-line Class Schedule. Paper class schedules are no longer available. SFSU has computer labs on campus for access, including the 24 Hours lab in the Library. Return to Top Matriculated Students: To be matriculated, you must have been admitted to the University and be a current student. (For more information about applying, please see the Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions sites). Return to Top Open Registration: After your Priority Registration Date has passed you may register during Open Registration Periods. See the Registration Schedule for dates and times. Return to Top Permit Number: The four digit code that enables students to add classes after the first day of instruction (see the Registration Schedule for dates). Return to Top Permit Number: Starting on the first day of instruction (see the Registration Schedule for dates), any student wishing to add classes must obtain a Permit Number from the instructor and add the class via the Web or Touch Tone. Classes must be added before the deadline date. Return to Top Priority Fee Payment Date: Students wishing to register for classes must pay tuition or have financial aid processed by this date listed on their Registration Time (see below). Return to Top Priority Registration Date: Each student is assigned a day and beginning time to register for classes based on the total units completed by the end of the previous semester. SFSU ID #: The nine digit number assigned to all students (this is no longer the Social Security Number).
