SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS FOR AWARD PROGRAMS

IN SUPPORT OF RESEARCH, SCHOLARSHIP, AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY

Application Deadline: October 1, 2004

TYPES OF AWARDS

The Vice President's Assigned Time Program makes available awards of three units of assigned time for research, scholarship, and creative activity.

Mini-Grants for scholarly research may be used for a variety of expenses to support individual projects (e.g., supplies, equipment, computer time, travel, student assistance, clerical support).  The dollar amount will not exceed $5,000 and must be used before June 15.

Summer Stipends provide a stipend equal to one month's regular salary to support one month of scholarship.  They will be awarded in June and must be used during that month.  The amount of the stipend is based on the salary rates in effect in June, and the time base of the faculty member during the Spring semester. Faculty awarded a summer stipend under this program may not accept additional employment funded by the CSU or CSU auxiliaries during the specified term of the summer stipend; twelve-month employees are not eligible for summer stipends.

Faculty Affirmative Action awards consist of up to three units of released time during the Spring semester and up to $2,500 support funds for mini grants and in-state travel.

ELIGIBILITY

All four programs are open to all tenured and tenure-track faculty, and full-time lecturers.  Faculty on early retirement (FERP) are not eligible. While the program is non-discriminatory, the decision to award assistance to faculty is influenced by the degree of under representation of a particular group within specific disciplines.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
