GUIDELINES FOR ACADEMIC MASTER PLAN PROJECTIONS

.

Though there are no formal guidelines from the Chancellor’s Office for academic master plan projections, the following questions should be answered in submitting projections for new academic degrees (they need not be answered in the format given):
  1. Who is proposing the new degree?
  2. What is the proposed degree nomenclature and date of implementation?
  3. What is the relation of the degree to University and College planning premises and profiles?
  4. Why is this new degree program needed? What societal benefits will result from it?
  5. Why can’t this new program be offered under another format; e.g., a concentration within an existing degree, a minor, or a certificate?
  6. Who are the potential students for the new degree and what is the anticipated student demand?
  7. What is the anticipated employer demand for graduates?
  8. What is the availability of faculty and other resources? Do the existing resources permit the addition of the new degree to those already being offered? What new resources will be needed and what College-level commitment has been made to allocate them?
  9. What is the relationship of the proposed degree to others presently in existence in the Bay Area? Are expectations about student enrollment realistic when compared with experience at other campuses? Would the proposed degree draw students away from programs at other campuses?
  10. Does the most recent program review and/or accreditation report demonstrate the "quality" of the present offerings in the area in which the new degree will be located?
