The newly completed San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge opens for traffic. The Bridge is an instant success, helping to relieve the overburdened ferry system that had been transporting more than 40 million people between San Francisco and Oakland each year.
During the Depression, Governor Olsen promises a "New Deal" for California.
