Interim World Wide Web Practices at SFSU
|
The following guidelines apply to resource allocations for WWW access
and services at SFSU.
Individual Students
- Individual students are allowed to create home pages in their 200 Mb
Internet accounts.
- Student home pages will NOT be linked to the SFSU home pages.
- Academic Computing will provide no direct support to students for developing
home pages.
- Appropriate use policies for campus computer accounts apply to home
pages, including policies regarding commercial use, copyright, and harassment.
Student Organizations
- Recognized student organizations are allowed up to 200 Mb of central
computing storage for home pages. If more space is required, the organization
should acquire its own server.
- The faculty sponsor of each organization is responsible for the content
of student organization home pages.
- The SFSU home page will have a pointer to "Student Organizations."
- The page listing student organizations will have a disclaimer on it.
Departments
- Departments are allowed up to 50 Mb of central computing storage for
home pages. If more space is required, the department should acquire its
own server.
- The department chair is responsible for the content of departmental
Web pages.
- The SFSU home page will have a pointer to "Departments."
- Computing Services will support the development of departmental Web
services by providing training, documentation and consulting to the extent
that resources are available.
Classes
- Web pages related to class assignments may be created in class accounts
on the central instructional computer.
- Instructors are responsible for the content of home pages created in
class accounts.
- Links to the SFSU home page for class projects can be discussed, on
a case by case basis, with the SFSU home page maintainer.
- Class projects may be moved to individual Internet accounts or departmental
servers when a class is over. All home pages in class accounts will be
deleted when the accounts are deleted at the end of a class.
- Computing Services will provide support for instructors using or creating
Web pages to the extent that resources are available.
Staff
- Staff are allowed to create personal home pages in their Internet accounts.
- Appropriate use policies for campus computer accounts apply to home
pages, including policies regarding commercial use, copyright, and harassment.
- It is recognized that staff home pages may have no relationship to
job responsibilities or the business of the university. It is expected
that staff home pages will be developed on employees' own time.
