How the Web Works

A Web page/site consists of:

One or more text file(s) marked-up (coded) using HTML tags
Accompanying mulitmedia files: Images, Sounds, Video and more..
Links to other resources (created using HTML)

The resulting files:

reside on a server,
in your user account,
in a specific directory (specified by the server),
and are made up of HTML, JPEG, and GIF files
