CGI programs can be used to enhance a web site. CGI is an abbreviation for Common Gateway Interface. It is a specification for transferring information between a World Wide Web server and a program on the server. Some of the popular cgi's available include a redirect pulldown menu, and CGIEMAIL/CGIFILE - a program used to develop customized web-based forms which sends the responses via e-mail or store the data to a file on the server. Other CGI programs available for faculty use on server online include Guestbook and Freechat Web Based Chat.
The password protect program can be used to restrict web access to one or more directories using a personal list of user names and passwords.
