| Linking Audio and Video Files | Audio and video files can be linked using URL's. The syntax is the same as that used for still images. The browsers evaluate the file extension, and if they have an external program set to interpret the resource type, they transfer the file and load it into the external program and play it. Audio files should use the widely accepted .au or .snd formats. Video files can use the most widely used MPEG, Quicktime, and AVI formats. |
| Keeping File Sizes Manageable | Very large files should be divided into smaller files, if artistically possible, with a text description of the highlights of each segment. It is courteous to indicate the size in bytes of each file you offer. When creating a sound or video file link consider how long it will take to transfer. I calculate using a generous 8 minutes per megabyte for serial connections. Ask yourself: Is it worth waiting X minutes to see/hear this file, or should the file be edited or split? |
