How to Apply for Admission

Beginning with Fall 2005 admission, online applications will be the primary way to apply. We encourage you to apply online via CSUMentor because you will receive a faster response.

If you do not have access to the internet in your area or if you have a condition that affects your ability to complete the online application, you may printout a paper application from CSUMentor and submit that to Admissions.

If you would like to turn in forms in person or handle other admission related matters, please come to "One Stop" in the Student Services building.

For college transfers, we have a "CSUMentor Tip Sheet" for applying online.

Initial Filing Periods
October 1 - November 30 for the next FALL semester
August 1 - 31 for the next SPRINGsemester
Apply early because admissions may close on the last day or soon thereafter. Frequently check for the final deadline.

Note: the following majors have special requirements, restrictions and/or early deadlines. Please check for details before applying.

Apparel Design & Merchandising, Broadcasting (Radio/TV), Cinema (Film), Interior Design, Nursing and Social Work.
  • Submit your application to Admissions with the following items:

Application fee of $55. You will receive a faster response if you pay online by credit card. If paying by mail, please send checks or money orders (payable to "CSU") with your social security number on the payment - do NOT send cash. If paying in person, we accept checks, money orders, or cash - no credit or debit cards. The application fee may be waived for low-income students by submitting the online fee waiver. EOPS students can apply online and send their EOPS fee waiver.

If applicable, send a copy of both sides of your Permanent Resident ("Green") Card. Also, if you are under 19 years old by the Residency Determination dates (details are in the CSU application), please submit a copy of both sides of one of your parent's Permanent Resident Card.

If you have residency questions, please contact Admissions by phone (415/338-6486) or by e-mail.

  • High school students:

Send a final OFFICIAL transcript after graduation from high school unless Admissions requests an earlier copy.

Send OFFICIAL test scores (SAT I or ACT) if your high school GPA is less than 3.0 (3.61 for non-California residents). It is highly recommended that all students send their test scores for possible exemptions from the math and English placement tests (ELM/EPT).

    Transfer students:

Send OFFICIAL transcripts to Admissions from all colleges attended, even if no course work was completed. Transcripts from colleges you no longer attend should be sent immediately after applying. Transcripts from current colleges should be sent after your last term. If Admissions requests an earlier copy, send immediately; however, you may wait until current fall grades are posted if you are a fall applicant.

Note: Please check your Admission packet for deadlines to send final OFFICIAL transcripts.

  • KEEP COPIES OF ALL DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED TO THE UNIVERSITY!!

  • If you need on-campus housing, please act today! Limited housing is available on a "first-come, first-served" basis. You do not need to be admitted before applying for housing. On and off campus options are available at Housing and Residential Services.
