APPLICATION & DEADLINES
Where can I get an application?
We encourage you to apply online via CSUMentor. Beginning with Fall 2005 admission, online applications will be the primary way to apply.
If you do not have access to the internet in your area or if you have a condition that affects your ability to complete the online application, please contact Admissions for options at 415/338-6486.
If you would like to turn in forms in person or handle other admission related matters, please come to the "One Stop Student Services Center.
More details on How to Apply
Is it too late to apply? We have one undergraduate deadline for most majors. It is very important to apply during the filing periods: Oct. 1 - Nov. 30 for Fall admission and Aug. 1-31 for Spring admission.
Note: The application must be received prior to the admission deadline. Do NOT delay in submitting the application because you are waiting for other documents (e.g., high school or college transcripts). TURN IN THE APPLICATION FIRST!
Current DEADLINES
Note: the following majors have special requirements,
restrictions and/or early deadlines. Please check for details before applying.
Apparel Design & Merchandising, Broadcasting (Radio/TV), Cinema (Film), Interior Design, Nursing and Social Work.
Is there a separate application for the impacted Nursing program?
No.
However, supplementary forms will be required by the School of Nursing.
ADMISSION STATUS & INTENT TO REGISTER
I haven't heard from the University. Could you tell me where I am in the admission process?
You
can check your admission status via the web. If you have questions regarding your admission status, please call Admission at 415/338-6486 (9 am - 12 pm & 1 pm -
4 pm) or Student Outreach at 338-2355 (8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm - 5 pm).
How do I complete my Intent to Register process?
You can complete your Intent to Register (ITR) process via the web. You need to declare whether you will or will not attend our University for a particular semester by the stated deadline. FAQs on ITR.
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
What are the Admission requirements?
Admission
requirements are different for the following type of students:
Which courses from my California community college (CCC) or
CSU will fulfill the Admission Subjects and other General
Education (GE) requirements at SFSU?
There
is a list of courses at your CCC that will apply to our
GE requirements. The list is commonly called the "CSU
GE" sheet and you can find it in your
college catalog, Transfer Center, or Counseling Office. Admission Subjects are usually
listed under "Area A and B4" of the CSU GE sheet.
Students
may complete either the CSU GE pattern or the IGETC (UC
& CSU) pattern at their CCC. We recommend the CSU
pattern unless you are also interested in a UC campus.
Note: the IGETC pattern MUST be entirely completed
for admission purposes.
For
students transferring from another CSU, our GE requirements
are very similar. For example, you do not have to take
"Oral Communication" at SFSU if you have already completed
that requirement at your CSU.
Could someone look at my transcripts and tell me if I meet the
Admission requirements? First, check our visitation calendar
to see if a SFSU Counselor will be at your high school or a community
college near you. Talk with your high school counselor on how to meet with us. At the community college, call the Transfer Center for appointment and drop-in schedules.
Second,
you may contact Student Outreach for questions.
If your questions cannot be handled over the phone, a SFSU Counselor
will schedule an appointment with
you.
Which courses can I take to fulfill requirements for my major?
Except for Nursing, students do not have to complete any major course work prior to transfer. However, it is highly beneficial to complete as many courses as possible for the major - this will help you to graduate more quickly.
Many majors have only a couple of lower-division courses (or none) that can be completed at a community college or at a 4-year university. Lower-division courses are numbered between 100 - 299 (SFSU's catalog). Courses 300 and above (e.g, Psychology 371) are considered upper-division and can only be fulfilled with upper-division courses at a 4-year university.
If you are attending a CCC, check Assist.org to see if there are any courses in your major that can be completed prior to transferring. If there are no comparable courses or if you have attended colleges outside of the CCC system, you may wish to check with the major department for advising.
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (EOP)
What is EOP?
EOP
provides educational support services for students (undergraduate
and CA-residents) from economically and educationally
disadvantaged backgrounds.
If
you are an EOPS student at a California community college
and want to be considered for EOP at SFSU, contact your
EOPS office for details.
How do I apply for EOP? To
be considered for EOP, you must indicate that on the appropriate questions on the admission application.
Please note: EOP applicants are accepted only
for the Fall semester.
How do I get the EOP forms and when is the deadline to turn
them in? Low income students will be mailed supplementary forms. Please turn in the forms as soon as possible. A deadline date will be established each year. Also, you may complete certain forms online and print remaining forms for other people to fill out.
FINANCIAL AID
How do I apply for Financial Aid?
You can complete the
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms online. If needed, you may pick up the paper version at your high school and/or college. Details about financial aid is available at the Office of Student Financial Aid at SFSU.
Students
should submit the FAFSA and Cal-Grant GPA Verification
form no earlier than January 2 and by March 2,
for the next academic school year. You are highly
encouraged to submit the forms as early as possible for
processing.
Remember to list our code #001154 on the FAFSA.
