Interim Vice President and Interim Dean Announced

Note: The following e-mail was sent on 5/4/11 to all faculty and staff.

Dear colleague,

I am pleased to announce that Nancy Hayes, Dean of the College of Business, has agreed to serve as interim vice president for Administration & Finance, effective July 1, when Executive Vice President Leroy Morishita leaves to take up the interim presidency at California State University, East Bay.

Dr. Caran Colvin, who is currently associate dean of the College of Business, will serve as interim dean of the College when Dean Hayes assumes her new post.

Dean Hayes is exceptionally well-qualified to undertake this role.  In almost six years as Dean of the College of Business, she has developed a thorough understanding of the university and its budget.  Under her direction, the College of Business has been recognized for its global curriculum, sustainable business programs and business ethics week. Dean Hayes has raised the profile of the College in the Bay Area business community and has successfully integrated our Downtown Campus into the fabric of the University. She has served on the University Budget Committee and the University Planning Advisory Council (UPAC) and been a trusted advisor to me and Provost Rosser. Pragmatic, experienced, and collegial, she is a problem-solver who is known and respected throughout the University community.

Plans are under way for a national search for a permanent replacement for Executive Vice President Morishita.  At the same time, we will undertake a national search for a dean of the College of Business, as Dean Hayes does not plan on returning to the college leadership role following this year of transition.

I thank both Dean Hayes and Associate Dean Colvin for their willingness to help ensure that SF State moves ahead strongly and positively in the coming year.

--Robert A. Corrigan, president
