BASELINE HARDWARE/SOFTWARE ACCESS,
TRAINING AND SUPPORT PLAN

San Francisco State University

Executive Summary

This plan is San Francisco State University’s response to the CSU Technology Steering Committee’s request for a Baseline Hardware/Software Access, Training and Support plan, as part of the system-wide Integrated Technology Strategy (ITS) Initiative.

This document describes San Francisco State’s current technology environment, past and on-going commitments to expanding and enhancing the technology infrastructure, as well as plans to meet requirements not only for 24-hour student access to computers and network services, but the whole range of access, training and support services described by the ITS Initiative. In addition, based on San Francisco State’s past leadership and its ability to move forward quickly toward the target environment, this plan includes a proposal for an "Early Start/Easy Access" program for funding and implementation in Spring 1997.

The campus requests $756,500 to fund the "Early Start/Easy Access" program. On-going funding for the ITS Initiative is based on a combination of campus and ITS funding, with a total anticipated budget of $5,758,500 in FY99/00 for initiatives related to meeting the requirements outlined in the ITS strategy.

Even though the budgets in this proposal do not include on-going operating, equipment or personnel costs associated with the technology infrastructure in place in FY95/96, the funding required to meet ITS objectives will exceed the available budget by approximately $1-2 million annually. The campus will seek additional funding to fully implement the Baseline plan. The plan was designed to be scaleable, however, so that individual projects can be adjusted to match available funding.
