Welcome to Museum Studies at SFSU!

Our two-year, Master of Arts program is highly practical, building upon students' previous academic studies in Anthropology, Art History, Classics/Classical Archaeology, Design, Education, History, the Sciences, Public Administration, or related disciplines.

Our students include recent BA graduates, working professionals from museums and related institutions, and scholars from closely related disciplines. They are active participants in our Student Association, extending practices or skills learned in and out of the classroom in their coordination of various academic, museum-related, and social activities on-site and beyond.

Our Complex is located on the fifth floor of the College of Humanities, which includes a resource library; photo documentation and archaeometry labs; an exhibit preparation workshop; and the Museum of Ancient Civilizations (HUM 510).

Our Museum is open to the public twice per year in April and November only, with student-produced exhibitions highlighting the Sutro Egyptian Collection (November exhibition), or objects from other on-campus or external museum collections with a world civilization theme (April exhibition). Admission to April & November shows are free, and field trip/group reservations are available (advance registration required).
