- Call the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at (415) 338-2032 to make an appointment with the Student Grievance Officer, to discuss the complaint.
- After this discussion, the student decides whether the complaint is going to be a formal complaint or just informational.
- The student must then put the complaint in writing and date and sign the written complaint.
- If the complaint is against a professor, the Student Grievance Officer will contact the Department Chair, College Dean, Dean of Undergraduate Studies or Dean of Graduate Studies to advise them that a complaint against a professor has been received and that the information is being forwarded for review and handling.
- The complaint is then forwarded to the Department Chair, College Dean, Dean of Undergraduate Studies or Dean of Graduate Studies for review and handling.
- If the complaint is against another student, the Student Grievance Officer will contact the Student Discipline Officer or Assistant Dean of Students to review and handle.
- If the complaint is against a staff person, the Student Grievance Officer will contact the Manager of the Department, and advise the Manager that a complaint has been filed against one of their staff members. The complaint is then forwarded to the Manager for review and handling.
- Once the review and handling process is over, the Student Grievance Officer receives a written or verbal report of the actions taken. The student is then notified that the complaint has been resolved.
- If the complaint is against an auxiliary - the Associated Student, Inc. or the Cesar Chavez Student Center - the Student Grievance Officer will refer the complaint to that auxiliary for handling. The auxiliaries have their own Grievance Process. The Student Grievance Officer will only handle complaints of sexual harassment or racial discrimination against an auxiliary.
