As a Presidential Scholar at San Francisco State University, you will get the best of two worlds: personalized small-college attention within a major urban university setting. You will begin your studies with a select, diverse group of peers whose academic and personal accomplishments have set them apart. You will receive:

A merit scholarship covering full academic fees; renewable for eight semesters based on performance. Guaranteed residence space on campus if you apply for it. $4000 for housing allowance in freshman year.

Personal attention and academic enrichment: A special welcome and advising sessions during the summer, before you register for classes. A freshman orientation seminar introducing Scholars to university life. Classes in Critical Thinking and Oral Communication, taken with other Presidential Scholars, that count toward your general education requirements. Personalized instruction on how to use your Internet and e-mail account.

Presidential Scholars' group events: Cultural events that spark your intellect and stretch your horizons, such as trips to the San Francisco Symphony or the Palace of the Legion of Honor museum. A one-day coastal fieldtrip with the director of the Presidential Scholars' program. And co-curricular activities that are just for fun.

Be challenged, and be confident of support when you need it.
