Pupil Personnel Services Certificate |
Students who desire a career in social work in the
public school system can work towards the approved Pupil Personnel Services
(PPS) Credential offered through the School of Social Work. Such students must
select the Social Work Practice With Individuals, Families, and Groups
Concentration.
The PPS Credential requirements also include completion of a second year
supervised field placement in a public school setting, at both elementary and
secondary level. Additionally, completion of SW 855 Social Work Practice in
School Settings, and SW 760 Social Work and the Law are required.
"Student Guidelines For the Pupil Personnel Services Credential: School of
Social Work" will be distributed to classified students at the new student
orientation in June. Students who are interested in pursuing the PPSC should
contact the School of Social work. Supervised field placements are coordinated
by Dianne Mahan, MSW, Director of Field Instruction.
California law mandates program requirements for receipt of the PPS Credential.
These additional requirements mean that MSW students seeking the PPS Credential
have less flexibility in their choice of elective courses.
Individuals who are interested in pursuing the PPS Credential should contact
the School’s PPS Coordinator, Christina Feliciana,
415.412.2848 or at cfeli@sfsu.edu, prior to
beginning the Fall Semester and should also inform Dianne Mahan, Director of
Field Education, 415.338.7533 or at mahan@sfsu.edu, of their interest.
