Welcome Statement |
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the MSW program at San Francisco State University. You can now print application forms online. If necessary, you can also request that an application packet be mailed to you.
The second part is the application to the School of Social Work. You must:
- Complete the MSW application form at http://www.sfsu.edu/~socwork
- Submit one set of official transcripts from each university you have attended
- Submit a minimum of three reference letters
- Submit verification of employment and volunteer work forms
All Application materials must be received by 5:00pm on January
21, 2008. The February 1, 2008 deadline is for the CSU Mentor University application and the School of Social Work application. Send your typed MSW application and MSW application official transcripts to:
San Francisco State University
School of Social Work, ADMISSIONS
1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94132.
You should retain a copy of your completed application for your own file.
The minimum of three (3) letters of reference should support statements made in your application relating to employment, volunteer or field instruction activity. These references should reflect your experience working with disadvantaged and oppressed groups. Please duplicate reference forms as needed. Fill in your name and address on the enclosed reference forms, give them to the persons you have asked for references, and have them mail the forms directly to the School. Alternatively, you can have them mail the references to you. Mail all the references in a single packet to the School. Each reference letter must be in a sealed envelope, signed across the back flap by the recommender. We are not responsible for furnishing you copies of reference letters. It is your responsibility to verify that the letters were sent to us by the persons who are writing them for you. The School will not evaluate incomplete applications.
If you applied to the MSW program for Fall 2008, you can request that we re-activate your application material. You may re-submit letters of references or use the ones currently on file. The School does not maintain any application or supporting materials for earlier years. Our School is committed to the recruitment and admission of students who are capable of working with disenfranchised communities. We encourage you to highlight experiences which give us a picture of how that commitment relates to you.
We regret that we can only admit a small number of applicants each year; therefore some qualified applicants may not be accepted. We will notify you at the earliest possible time of our decision. It is the policy of the school, however, not to reveal the details of its confidential admissions process or to provide applicants who are not accepted with written explanations of our admission decisions.
Thank you for your interest in the program. You can contact Admissions at socwork@sfsu.edu
Sincerely,
Jerald Shapiro, Professor
MSW Admissions Chair
