Scholarships For CSE Students

The College of Science & Engineering awarded two student scholarships in the fall of 1998. Dean James Kelley and his committees had a tough time to decide the winners since most applicants were so qualified for the awards. They selected Cheryl Thompson, a graduate student in Biology, for the $2,500 CSE Advisory Board Scholarship and Alan Von Herman, an undergraduate student in Mathematics, for the $500 David G.C. Cassa Memorial Scholarship. Both students were grateful for the award they received. It relieves them from some financial burden so they can concentrate on their study.

This coming fall semester the College will add two more scholarships from Kenneth (BS ’71, Biology) & Pam (BS ’73, Mathematics) Fong to the growing list of awards and scholarships in the College. Last year, Dr. & Mrs. Kenneth Fong, the owners of CLONTECH, Inc., established a $10,000 endowed scholarship fund for two undergraduate students, one in Biology and one in Mathematics. Another newly established scholarship is the CSE Alumni Scholarship fund. This scholarship of $500 is intended to support a CSE undergraduate student. Currently, this fund needs your support.

With the high demand of more scholarships for students in the College, the College Advancement office is trying to expand its scholarship program. If you would like to donate to an existing scholarship fund or establish a new one, feel free to contact Lannie Nguyen-Tang at (415) 338-7662. Please make checks payable to SFSU Foundation-College of Science & Engineering Scholarship Fund and mail them to San Francisco State University, College of Science & Engineering, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94132-4163. (All contributions, for which no goods or services were exchanged, are tax-deductible to the full extend of the law).
