Wonderful News

The College of Science and Engineering (COSE) awarded four scholarships for the Fall '99 term. The Scholarship committee headed by Dean Kelley reviewed a total of 32 applicants. Since the quality of the applicants was all outstanding, the selection process was very difficult. The committee wished more financial resources were available all of the outstanding students.
The Graduate COSE Advisory Board Scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded to Constance Ganong (Systematic Biology & Ecology) and Christa Speekmann (Marine Biology). The Undergraduate David G.C. Cassa Memorial Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Gina Perez-Baron (Cell & Molecular Biology).  The Undergraduate Biology, Kenneth & Pam Fong Scholarship of $250 was awarded to Jennifer Agard (Cell & Molecular Biology).
The COSE Advancement Office has established a new Student Project Fund.  Funds will reimburse students up to $500 for their projects, research, fieldwork, graduate and undergraduate thesis work. The Student Project Fund was established through generous donations of the College alumni and friends. The allocation for the Fund for each semester is between $4,000 to $5,000. Fifteen proposals totaling $16,000 were submitted. Dean Kelley and Associate Dean of Development Abo-El-Ata awarded all fifteen proposals, modifying the award amounts to total $4,800. Individual awards were given $300 and team awards were given $500.
