Sherwood speaks enthusiastically about expanding the SFSU alumni effort. SFSU alumni are quite a different animal than the average CSU Chico graduates, reflecting the differences between the two campuses. While most of Chico State’s graduates relocate after living on campus for four years, our graduates tend to stay in the Bay Area. So a good deal of Chico’s effort went into forming regional chapters, while the majority of SFSU’s chapters are organized around campus departments and colleges. SFSU only has two regional chapters—Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Sherwood looks to strengthen the on-campus chapters and to initiate more regional chapters, including forming international alumni groups. He will also create more support for alumni by expanding his staff and hopes one day to have an alumni house on campus, a home away from home for alumni when they visit campus.
Sherwood plans to build
on the accomplishments of outgoing director Kathleen Branagan, who increased
the membership from 2800 to 7300 in her eight years as director, initiated
the chapter program and the Alumni Hall of Fame.
