Please send me this email ASAP so I can put you on the list even if you're unsure if you can complete your project. You still have 3 weeks to continue working on your project and make the final decision to participate or not in May.  If you wait until May to sign up, it's too late.
Come and see how to put together a nice and presentable poster.

Information will be posted her often so check back and see if you have missed any email announcements.
If you have questions, you may email contact me by email at science@sfsu.edu; by ph

Important Information for Entrants
(last updated 4 pm 5/13/04)

Dear COSE student,

All materials on this page and from the links below are very IMPORTANT.  Read them thoroughly and completely.  There are 124 entries (see table below for the categories).  This is an all time record and a very large group for me to take care of.  That's why I have to set up this page for all of you to use.  You will be competiting against those who are in your category.  There are 5 prizes in each of the four categories.   However, keep in mind that this is an opportunity for you to practice your presentation.  Communications skills - written and verbal - are great skills to posess since they are needed everywhere you go, whether you will be in the work force after graduation or go on to obtain a higher degree.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

FRIDAY 5/14 is tomorrow. You must check in with me, SCI 248, by 2:30 pm at the latest (the earlier, the better). I'll be starting to set up your 'station' from 8 am, so come by and work on your project. Judges (professors in the College) will start their grading at 3 pm exact.  If you're not ready by 3 pm, I will drop you out of the competition.  They have many projects to review and will have no time to wait for you.  When judges arrive at your station, they'll identify themselves to you so you know to do your best.  They will have around 3-4 mins to listen to your presentation.  They will go in group so you don't have to repeat your presentation many times.  There are 2-3 rounds so stand by your posters until 6 pm.  I'll let you know when you may feel free to wander around and check out other projects (if you wish).  Don't go too far as we have invited President, Provost and his cabinet, Administrators, and alumni & friends to drop by to see your demonstrations and hear your research presentations. Hope you'll stay around even longer to enjoy the talk from Dr. Bill Hsu, who will give you an interactive tour of how computers are used to simulate music instruments and generate sounds for games and virtual reality environments. and to find out if you have won!

In pdf format

Here is how 124 entries break into four categories:

Graduate Level Undergraduate Level
Biology 31 11
Chemistry & Biochemistry 11 10
LIFE SCIENCE TOTALS 42 (GL category) 21 (UL category)

Computer Science 14 3
Engineering 5 26
Geosciences 2 0
Mathematics 2 2
Physics & Astronomy 4 3
PHYSICAL SCIENCE TOTALS 27 (GP category) 34 (UP category)

GRAND TOTALS 69 55

If you still have questions, you may email contact me by email at science@sfsu.edu; by phone (415) 338-7662; in person at SCI 248 (main office hours M, T, Th 9 am-1 pm; Wed 9 am - 6 pm; and Fri 5/14 from 8 am;  I will be in and out during other times, take a chance and drop by if you need.)

Good luck and have a great time!

Lannie
