Application to San Francisco State University is a two-part process.

You must complete both parts for your application to be reviewed.

 

Applications for the MA Program must be received by May 1 for Fall Semester admission or November 1 for Spring Semester admission. Please consul the University Bulletin for other SFSU deadline, such as for International Students. All supporting materials should also be received in time to meet the deadlines.

1PART ONEApply to SFSU online at CSU Mentor.

Online applications are uploaded to SFSU Student Systems in 24 hours. You do not need to respond on CSU Mentor to the question related to "Statement of Purpose." Just write in that space, "See attached."

  

 

Submit one set of official transcripts from all post-secondary (post-high school) programs attended. Send one set to the University (San Francisco State University, Graduate Admissions, 1600 Holloway Avenue, ADM 254, San Francisco, CA  94132). Send the second set to the department/program. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted to departments, official transcripts, however, must be on file with the Office of Graduate Admission.

a. Copy of all transcripts (need not be original/official).

 

b. Complete Departmental Application

 

c. OPTIONAL: Two letters of recommendation. Ideally, these letters should be written by professors who are familiar with your academic skills and potentials. Letters from employers and others who know you are acceptable, but they are not as useful to us for gauging your academic potential.

 

d. OPTIONAL: A writing sample that demonstrates your best undergraduate writing in any discipline (preferably a 7-10 page paper).
