Background

The Office of Student Programs and Leadership Development has and continues to serve student leader on the San Francisco State campus through training, advising, risk management, etc. OSPLD is in the process of developing an additional leadership development initiative to best support student and student organizations at SF State. This new initiative comes for a variety of reasons:

  1. Changing demographics with more students living on campus with each academic year. With the upcoming 2007-2008 academic year, over 50% of the freshmen class will live Residence Life facilities.
  2. Review of graduation rate and retention
  3. 2004-2005 CSU audit of OSPLD and other CSU Student Activities programs
  4. Leadership survey conducted by OSPLD in the fall of 2005

Leadership experience creates and builds a foundational sense of identity in your community (personal, local, global) while at SF State. In ÒbecomingÓ an active member in the community, a sense of leadership will be expressed through the participant's experiences, roles and responsibilities. Students taking a leadership role take action towards addressing themes and issues in their own development, their organization, and the SF State community.
