History
History Professor Emeritus Bill Issel's chapter on Catholics and politics during the New Deal is featured in Catholicism in the American West: A Rosary of Hidden Voices (Texas A&M University Press, 2007). Issel, a consultant for the San Francisco History Museum scheduled to open in 2011, is drafting the narratives for the planned exhibits and serving on the museum's story and working committees.

Design and Industry
Assistant Professor of Design and Industry Hsiao-Yun Chu's articles "Industrial Design" and "Art Deco" were published in the anthology Material Culture in America; Understanding Everyday Life (AVC-Clio Press, 2007). The anthology looks at the study of material culture and what it reveals about historical and contemporary life in the U.S.

Chemistry
Assistant Professor of Chemistry Marc O. Anderson and colleagues published a study on the substrate specificity of a prostate-specific membrane antigen in the journal Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry 2007, published in Oxford, England.

Ethnic Studies
Associate Professor of Ethnic Studies Rabab Abdulhadi organized and served on the panel "Narrating Home and Homelands: Space, Place and Displacement in Comparative Arab Diasporas" at the November annual meeting of the Middle East Studies Association in Montreal, Canada.

Jorge Sanchez, a research specialist for the Family Acceptance Project at the Cesar Chavez Institute, was a creative contributor to a video selected for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Sanchez and his partners interviewed and filmed hundreds of people in and around Oakland for the video mosaic "Along the Way." The 20-minute piece was commissioned by the Port of Oakland and runs continuously on a media wall inside the Oakland International Airport. In addition to the Sundance Festival, "Along the Way" will be part of the ongoing screening program at the Contemporary Temporary Museum of Art in Salt Lake City.
