Recreation and leisure studies
Recreation and Leisure Studies Assistant Professor Nina Roberts is the recipient of the Association for Experiential Education's 2007 Kurt Hahn Award. The organization's highest honor is presented annually to a member who has contributed to the development and advancement of experiential education with tenacity and conviction. The award was presented at the organization's international conference in Little Rock, Ark., Nov. 8 - 11. As the recipient, Roberts presented the Kurt Hahn Address.

Cinema
Jennifer van Sijll, lecturer in screenwriting for Cinema, spoke at the Oct. 2007 Screenwriter's Expo in Los Angeles on the topic of her bestselling book, "Cinematic Storytelling" (2005).

Music and dance
"Short Story," a composition for solo marimba by Ronald Caltabiano, professor of music and dance and associate dean of creative arts, was recorded by She-e Wu and released on Resonator Records.

Professor of Music Richard Festinger's composition "The Locust Tree," commissioned by choral ensemble Volti, premiered Nov. 3 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley and was again presented on Nov. 4 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco. Festinger was composer-in-residence in May 2007 at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and in June and July at the Oberfälzer Künstlerhaus in Germany. His composition "Construction en Metal Et Bois," was performed by the New Millennium Ensemble on Sept. 20 at Symphony Space in New York, NY.

Broadcast and electronic communication arts
"Service Learning in the World Community: Video Production in South America," a chapter by BECA professor Betsy Blosser, was recently published in the book "Race, Poverty and Social Justice: Multidisciplinary Perspectives through Service Learning" (Stylus, 2007).
