Extending help to San Bruno fire victims
Note: the following e-mail was sent on 9/13/10 to all students, faculty and staff.
Dear faculty, staff and students:
For a University so closely tied to its larger community, the loss and destruction by the recent fire in neighboring San Bruno is a cause of concern—and an opportunity for action. The University stands ready to support the agencies that are responding to this tragedy, and the administration has extended offers of support to appropriate agencies and officials. Should your class, department or student group have specific suggestions for ways that SF State can step up to help our neighbors at this tragic time, please send your suggestion to neighbor@sfsu.edu. You may have the resources to organize a blood drive, a clothing collection, or in some other way assist those in need. Through this centralized communication point we can best organize our University efforts and have the greatest positive impact.
A tragedy of such magnitude is bound to impact the University community in other ways as well. Yesterday we learned that alumna Jacqueline Greig, and her daughter Janessa, were among those who lost their lives during this tragedy. On behalf of the University, we have sent our condolences to the Grieg family, who by extension are members of the University community.
If any student, faculty or staff member is suffering a loss or in need of assistance as a result of the San Bruno fire, we offer our assistance. Please contact us at neighbor@sfsu.edu and we will respond rapidly.
And, as always in the case of a tragedy that affects members of our community, we urge those struggling with the event to contact Counseling and Psychological Services for assistance, at (415) 338-2208.
