Downtown merchants welcome University community

August 3, 2007

San Francisco's Westfield CentreSan Francisco merchants are extending a warm welcome to the University's Downtown Campus with offers of special rates on shopping, dining, hotels and entertainment.

Just seven months after opening the Downtown Campus at 835 Market Street, the University has developed solid relationships with its newest neighbors in the heart of the city's business community. Merchants in and around the surrounding San Francisco Westfield Centre are among those offering generous discounts and package deals exclusively to SF State students, faculty and staff.

A simple flash of an SF State I.D. card will gain discounts as high as 15 percent on the price of food and drinks at participating cafes in the San Francisco Westfield Centre's Food Emporium as well as up to 20 percent off spa treatments at Burke Williams. Meanwhile, just two blocks away at the American Conservatory Theater (ACT), University students, faculty and staff can purchase a package of tickets to four plays for half price.

Nearby hotels are also giving a warm welcome to the Downtown Campus, which opened in January and houses the University's College of Business graduate programs and College of Extended Learning. Joie de Vivre Hotels, Kimpton Hotels and The Pickwick Hotel offer discounted rates to all SF State students, faculty -- and their guests. The discount can be obtained by using special codes when making reservations.

Peter Gamez (B.A., '89), vice president of sales at Joie de Vivre, a hotel group offering a 15 percent discount to the entire University community, says the relationship is a win-win situation. "SF State has a long history of producing the future leaders of our industry. Not only are they well educated, but the diversity of staff and students at SF State plays a significant part in the graduates' contribution to our businesses."

A list of participating vendors and details on their discount offers is available online and will be updated as new offers are made available.
