CONCENTRATION IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
By specializing in international business, a student gains an understanding of the international aspects of business. Courses analyze the rapidly changing international environment and the new management problems and tasks that result. A student can begin a career in a functional department of a company, with the opportunity to move into international operations as career paths develop.. Alternatively, a student may begin working directly in international operations, including the import-export field. Students studying abroad in California State University International Programs or in an SFSU Exchange Program may develop special international business concentrations with adviser approval before going abroad. Students with specific educational or career objectives may develop special international business concentrations in consultation with an adviser. Undergraduates in an international business concentration may not offer toward graduation units on a CR/NCR grade basis beyond the core requirements. Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in all concentration courses.

Minor in International Business (24 units) A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for the International Business minor and at least 50 percent of courses must be taken in residence. Except in cases of credit by examination, no more than six units of the International Business minor may be offered on a CR/NC basis.

Students must complete two semesters of course work from international business core and specialized courses. Students who have specific educational or career needs may be allowed to vary selection of courses in the program after consulting with and obtaining written approval from the program coordinator.

The program is designed to prepare individuals to assume managerial responsibilities in international business, to perform in a responsive and responsible way in the multinational environment, and to contribute to economic development and international understanding through investment, production, and trade. The M.S.B.A. provides an opportunity for greater specialization in international operations and functions.
Specialized international business courses are found in the listings for accounting, finance, management, and marketing as well as those for international business. They include ACCT 808; FIN 835 and 836; IBUS 815, 818, 830, 855, 857, 859, 879, 881, 890, 895, and 899; and MKTG 880 at the graduate level.
With an adviser's approval, the student selects courses from the 800-series in the College of Business, and supporting graduate and upper-division courses from appropriate colleges to provide: (1) a functional emphasis; (2) a functional or regional emphasis including language; or (3) a program tailored to the individual needs and objectives of the student.
