E-mail File Attachment Blocks
The SFSU E-mail server is configured to block certain attachments to prevent the spread of computer viruses. Attachments sent with filenames that contain the following extensions will not be delivered:
.bat, .bif, .cmd, .cnm, .com, .drv, .enc, .exe, .hta, .js, .lnk, .pif, .reg, .scr, .sct, .vb, .vbe, .vbs, .vxd, .wsc, .wsf, .wsh, .unk
True extensions are always at the end of a filename (e.g., notepad.exe). However, if the characters that make up one of these extensions is found anywhere in an attachment's name, the message will not be delivered. An attachment named "my.registration.doc" would not be delivered because ".reg" is part of the name.
If you need to send or receive a file that contains one of these text strings, we recommend you use the archive feature in Windows XP or in Mac OS X to create a .zip archive. In earlier versions of Windows you can use FilZip. In earlier versions of the Mac OS, you can use StuffIt (the 15 day trial versions can create archives).
