Determining the Versions of VirusScan, the VirusScan Scan Engine, and the Virus Definitions

How do I check the versions of VirusScan, the VirusScan Scan engine and the Virus definitions that are currently installed on my computer?

  1. Right-click on the VirusScan icon VirusScan icon located on the right hand side of the Windows task bar.
  2. Select About VirusScan Enterprise or About from the pop up menu. (The menus will differ slightly depending on which version of VirusScan you have installed).

  3. The About VirusScan Enterprise or About McAfee VirusScan window should appear.

    Look directly to the right of the words VirusScan Enterprise or McAfee VirusScan for the current installed version (in this example the VirusScan Enterprise version installed is 8.0i Enterprise and the version on the right-hand side is McAfee VirusScan 4.5.0.534). The w/SP next to the words McAfee VirusScan indicates that the Service Pack is installed).

    The number to the right of the words Virus definitions indicates the currently installed version (in this example the virus definitions installed for VirusScan 8.0i is 4515 and the virus definitions for VirusScan 4.5 is is 4.0.4120). The Created on field indicates the date of the installed Virus definitions.

    The number to the right of the words Scan engine indicates the currently installed version (in this example the scan engine version installed for VirusScan 8.0i is 4400 and the scan engine version for VirusScan 4.5 is 4.1.20).

Determining the Version of Virex and the Virus Definitions

How do I check the version of Virex that is currently installed on my Macintosh computer?

Mac OS X 10.x

  1. Locate the Virex 7 folder.
    This is typically located in the Applications folder within the Mac Hard Drive.
  2. Launch Virex by double-clicking on the Virex icon. Virex 7 icon
  3. Click on Virex and select About Virex from the drop down menu.

  4. In the Virex window that appears look at the version number listed in the top upper right hand corner. In this example the version of Virex is version 7 (v.1.0).

Mac OS 8.x - 9.x

  1. Locate the Virex folder.
    This is typically located in the Mac Hard Drive.
  2. Launch Virex by double-clicking on the Virex icon. Virex 6.1 icon
  3. Click on the Apple menu and select About Virex from the drop down menu. About Virex dialog menu
  4. In the Virex window that appears look at the version number listed in the top upper right hand corner (circled in red). In this example the version of Virex is 6.1.

How do I determine the version of the Virus definitions for Virex that is currently installed on my Macintosh computer?

  1. Launch Virex by double-clicking on the Virex icon. Virex 7 icon or Virex 6.1 icon
  2. Look in the bottom left hand corner of the Virex window for the date of the latest Virus Definition (circled in red).
    In the example below the installed Virus Definition is from May 12th, 2003.
