The mission of the Institute for Holistic Healing Studies (IHHS) is to provide the university and broader community with a comprehensive foundation of knowledge and skills for developing personal health and well-being through instruction, innovative research and extracurricular programs.
Ultimately, the Institute seeks to encourage individuals toward increased self and ecological awareness, a greater capacity for self-regulation, and an improved ability to generalize these understandings to all aspects of life. This may be realized by improved health, more meaningful and creative work, enhanced personal relationships, or deeper spiritual (transpersonal) understandings.
There are many specific applications and forms of holistic health including: stress management, behavioral medicine, applied psychophysiology, biofeedback, Autogenic Training, Traditional Chinese Medicine (including acupuncture, acupressure, herbology, nutrition, qi-gong), meditation, guided imagery, yoga, somatic therapies (such as: therapeutic touch and subtle energy therapies), and ecological thinking and living.

Mission - Linking colleges and universities with communities to eliminate health inequalities through: Education • Training • Applied Research • Advocacy
Founded in 1992, Community Health Works (CHW) of San Francisco is a nationally recognized center for innovation in community health. We focus on public health and primary care for low income and immigrant communities. Two intertwined goals guide our work: to eliminate health inequalities, and to diversify the public health and primary care workforce. CHW is a partnership of San Francisco State University and City College of San Francisco.

The San Francisco Welcome Back Center is the lead center in the State of California's statewide initiative "to build a bridge between the pool of internationally trained health workers living in California and the need for linguistically and culturally competent health services in underserved communities." In other words, the goal of this exciting program is to assist health professionals from all over the world, who have come to the United States and have not been able to exercise their professions.
