Search Tips

There are 5 search options available to help you narrow your search. Here are some search options that are worth highlighting:

  • Under the Search by Major option, searching by ‘Any Major’ will give you scholarships with the least restrictive eligibility criteria.

  • Search by key word is a powerful search option, but it’s important to note that it searches the specific word(s) you select from the text used in our database. Searching by a specific month will give you all the scholarships with a deadline date of that month. Additionally, if your search is too narrow, then you may miss many other scholarships that you are eligible for. It’s recommended you begin your search as broadly as possible and then narrow your search to customize. It's good to also try variations of the same word. For example, women, woman, female, hispanic, latino, disability, disabilities, half-time, half time.

To further refine your search, try these variations:

    Month and half-time
    All_majors and month and half-time
All_majors and month and geographical location
    (ie.,San Mateo County)

  • On the Detailed Information of Scholarships page, some fields are worth highlighting:

  • Citizenship: ‘Any’ means that any citizenship status may be eligible, including those related to international students and AB540 statuses (check with organization).

  • Financial Need Required: ‘Yes’ means applicant must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid and has financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

  • GPA: GPA is expressed as a range, such as 2.0-2.9. This represents the minimum qualifying range, but a GPA that exceeds this range also qualifies. If the GPA is a specific GPA within the range, it may be listed under the Criteria section. If unsure contact the organization.

Additionally, check with your college, department, and their web sites for more scholarship information, as there may be scholarship opportunities which have not yet been listed on our searchable scholarship database. (See Resources Section)

If the application deadline has passed and you’ve determined that you are eligible for the scholarship, consider obtaining a scholarship application and begin preparing for next year’s competition.

Our office makes every attempt to remain current with the scholarship information and we encourage your feedback if you determine that a scholarship’s information requires an update.

Periodically, errors such as unmatched scholarship results on the searchable scholarship database occur. This occurs due to the uploading process and will resolve itself in a 24-hour period. Please check back after this time.
