List Owner/Moderator Commands

The following majordomo commands are available to list owners and list moderators. They are distinguished from the previous general commands by the use of a password. To use these commands, compose a new message addressed to majordomo@sfsu.edu. Subject line should be left blank. In the body of the message type the command you wish to use on one line. In the following examples "mailing-list" and "nobody@sfsu.edu" are generic names, you need to insert the proper mailing list name and your own email address for the commands to work. Also in the examples below <password> will be the generic name for the list owner/moderator password. You will need to use your actual list password to have the commands work. These commands are in the order of most used to least used.

approve <password> subscribe <list> <email address>
e.g.
approve password subscribe mailing-list nobody@sfsu.edu

This is to approve a subscription to the mailing you are moderating. The email may be someone who has asked to join, or you, as the moderator, would like to add to the mailing list.

approve <password> unsubscribe <list> <email address>
e.g.
approve password unsubscribe mailing-list nobody@sfsu.edu

This is to approve an unsubscribe to the mailing list. Useful if someone got on the list by mistake, wants off the list, or you would like to remove someone from the list. This useful in cases were an individual does not know how to get off the mailing list

passwd <list> <old password> <new password>
e.g.
passwd mailing-list oldpass newpass

This is so you can change the administrative password for the mailing list.

newintro <list> <password>
e.g.
newintro mailing-list password

This is the first line of the new intro

This is to replace the introductory message people receive when they first subscribe to the list. Majordomo will read everything AFTER the command line until the end of the message as the new introduction. The "This is the first line of the new intro" would be the start of the new introduction.

newinfo <list> <password>
e.g.
newinfo mailing-list password

This is identical to the above command, but changes what people see when they do "info <list>".

Again all of the above commands should be sent to majordomo@sfsu.edu and NOT to a particular mailing list.
