The Confucius Institute at SF State and San Francisco Unified School District are proudly presenting the 12th Chinese Language Bridge Cup Contest (CLBCC) for K-12 Students. Jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University and San Francisco Unified School District, sponsored by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters and Education Office of the Consulate General of the P.R. China, the CLBCC is welcoming its 12th anniversary by offering more exciting events in larger scales.

The contest will be held at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School (460 Arguello Blvd, San Francisco, CA, 94118) on March 12th and March 13th, 2016. The purpose of the contest is to provide more opportunities for students to demonstrate their linguistic and cultural talents, and showcase their interest and achievements in learning Chinese language and culture with help from their teachers and parents. An award ceremony will be held on April 8th, 2016.

Through the Chinese Bridge Cup Contest, we hope that the study of Chinese will not just connect American students with the language, but also with the culture, literature, and rich history of China.

  • The competition will be held at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School (460 Arguello Blvd, San Francisco, CA, 94118).
  • Participants will be placed in the grade division based on their daytime school grades.
  • There will be 1 champion and few runner-ups plus several honorable mentions awarded for each event per group. Champions and runner-ups will receive trophies, certificates, and gifts. Honorable mentions will receive certificates and gifts.
  • Participants may only register for one recital contest (Mandarin or Cantonese).
  • Poetry Recital event is divided into "heritage speaker" and "non-heritage speaker" for both Cantonese and Mandarin competitions. The explanation of “heritage” or “non-heritage” Chinese speaker is determined by the registered Home Language Survey provided by the school district and will be double checked with the school district if the eligibility of a student is questioned.
  • Only on-line application, we will not accept mailing or drop-in applications. Fax and Email applications are considered invalid. Please apply online at http://www.sfsu.edu/~ci.

  • Participants will receive confirmation as soon as they complete registration online. We will post the schedule for each contest group at http://www.sfsu.edu/~ci before March 10th, 2016.
