Graduate Concentration in
The College of Business offers a concentration
in Entrepreneurship for graduate students in the MBA and MSBA programs. This
specialization prepares students to start businesses, and work in newer
and/or smaller innovative firms where an emphasis is placed on opportunity
identification and actualization (making things happen), risk taking,
and the application of parsimony (doing more with less). The program focuses
on new venture creation, business creation, business planning, and innovation,
as well as developing functional skills in marketing, finance and operations
for small business management. Special attention is given to understanding
the challenges faced by high-tech organizations and high-growth
companies.
One of the
strengths of San Francisco State University is its commitment to interdisciplinary
activities and programs. Students concentrating in entrepreneurship have
an opportunity to collaborate with world-renowned faculty from across
the University on projects with an entrepreneurial focus. Such opportunities
include working in: The Wheeled Mobility Center which coordinates the
development and expansion of wheelchair-producing workshops in 20 third
world countries; the Design Center for Global Needs; the International
Business Internship Program; the Hospitality Management Program, and the
Center for the Study of Enterprise.
Because of SFSU's unique competencies, as well as its proximity to many
of the leading firms in a variety of new and emerging technologies and
markets, courses with an industry or market-specific orientation are offered
in such areas as: restaurant management (as an entrepreneurial endeavor);
ethnic enterprise development; hotel design and product development, and
international trade.
Refer
to the SFSU Bulletin for more information on the graduate programs.
See "Management" under the MBA and MSBA sections.
