Career Events
During the fall and spring semesters, the Career Center coordinates
a variety of career events. Some of these events are open only
to SF State students and alumni.
Our Events
Calendar will list the days, dates and times for many
of these events, as well as participating organizations.
Fairs
These recruiting events attract top Bay
Area employers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations
and graduate schools.
Part-time Job Fair
On-campus and off-campus employers offer part-time positions
(work study and non-work study) during this outdoor event
held during the first week of classes in late August. Resumes
are recommended, but not necessary.
Graduate School Fair
Recruiters from a variety of universities are available to
speak with interested students about their graduate school
programs. This fair is typically held on the first Tuesday
of October.
Career Expo
Held in the fall and spring semesters, the Career Expo provides
a great opportunity for students to obtain career information
from employers offering entry-level positions and internship/co-op
programs. The Career Expo is open to SF State students and
alumni ONLY.
Education Career Fair
Representatives from more than 60 school districts recruit
teachers and administrators at the Education Career Fair every
spring semester. Students and alumni should bring resumes
and wear professional business attire. Recruiters will be
conducting interviews during the event. Free to teacher candidates
and alumni from SF State, University of San Francisco, and
other CSU Universities. $10 registration for others.

Symposiums
A Career Symposium is an educational program,
in collaboration with academic departments at SF State, where
alumni and employers speak and/or serve on panels. Alumni
panelists often answer questions such as, "How did you
find your job?" or "What is it like during the first
year on the job?" Employer panelists typically discuss
the transition from "backpack to briefcase," job
search strategies, and opportunities in the current job market.
Students can chat with employers and alumni about specific
employment opportunities and internship/co-op programs during
the networking sessions that follow.
Media Career Symposium
The Media Career Symposium is an alumni panel that discusses
careers in broadcasting and electronic communication media.
Co-sponsored by the Broadcasting and Electronic Communications
Arts (BECA) department.
Nursing Career Symposium
This event is for students and alumni interested in nursing
careers. The alumni panel discusses the first year of professional
nursing, career options and job-search strategies. Co-sponsored
by the School of Nursing.
Hospitality Managment Career Symposium
Keynote speakers and an alumni panel discuss current trends
in the hospitality industry. This event is attended by students
interested in the hospitality, travel and tourism industries.
A hospitality job fair is held following the panel. Co-sponsored
by the Hospitality Management Department and College of Business.
Technology Career Symposium
Co-sponsored by the College of Science & Engineering,
this event is held in the spring semester during National
Engineering Week. Employers and alumni from engineering, computer
science and information systems discuss their company culture,
career options, tips on job search and their secrets for succeeding
in the word of work.
Teacher Career Symposium
Co-sponsored by the College of Education, the Teacher Career
Symposium brings together recruiters and alumni to discuss
job search and interviewing tips for teacher candidates who
will be attending the SF State Education Fair later in the
spring.

Workshops
Attend a Career Workshop and receive an Early Access

Rev Up Your Resume
This workshop discusses how various resume styles can be
used to tailor your resume to your specific job objective.
Resumes styles include functional, relevant coursework and
scannable. Bring your resume and get your specific questions
answered at the end of the workshop. Attend this workshop

Make the Interview Count
Make the Interview Count provides the opportunity to improve
your interviewing skills utilizing interactive exercises and
a video presentation.(Can't come to a workshop? Visit Perfect

Maximize Your Job Search Strategies
Learn valuable hiring information and successful job search
tips to give you an edge in a competitive job market. Attend

Finding the Perfect Internship
Discover the steps for finding an internship or co-op program
that can provide valuable career-related experience before
you graduate. Juniors are encouraged to attend. Attend this

Make a Job Fair Work for You
Ever wonder what really goes on at a job fair? How do you
introduce yourself? What do you talk about? What questions
do you ask? Learn how to network with employers and make a
great first impression. Attend this workshop to earn an Early
Access Pass to the semester Career Fair.
So You Want to Work in the US?
As an international student, you will learn effective strategies
for conducting a job search in the U.S. Attend this workshop
to earn an Early Access Pass to the semester Career Fair.
Get Hired! Workshop Symposium
Get Hired! provides an opportunity for students to attend
up to three different job search workshops in one day. Workshop
topics include resume writing, interviewing, finding an internship,
and job-search strategies. Employers are also on hand to critique
resumes. Attend any of these workshops to earn an Early Access
Pass to the semester Career Fair.
Practice Interview Day
This one-day event provides students the opportunity to
participate in a practice interview with a local employer
and receive constructive feedback about their interviewing
skills. Attend a Make the Interview Count workshop
and receive priority registration for a practice interview.
OCI Program Orientation
This orientation provides information about the On-Campus
interviewing Program and is recommended for all interested
students. Attend this workshop to earn an Early Access Pass
to the semester Career Fair - be one of the first to meet
employers!
