Any
media in our collection
(16mm, videocassette, laser disc or DVD) can be broadcast through
our campus-wide cable system to be viewed in your classroom for regularly
scheduled classes.
We can also broadcast any 1/2" VHS videocassette, laser disc or DVD
from a faculty member's personal collection.
We can also broadcast international format VHS tapes in PAL or SECAM.
We cannot broadcast 3/4" videocassettes or 8mm film.
Check our on-line
classroom database to make sure your classroom has a TV or Video
Projector installed. If not, check one out from AV.
We have Closed Caption Decoders on 1 laserdisc/DVD channel and 5 videocassette channels. We cannot guarantee that closed captioning has been encoded on the media. We will test any media ahead of time at your request.
There are three methods of accessing your broadcast:
| CALL TO START |
AUTOMATIC START (Not available for 16mm films) |
TELEPHONE CONTROL (Not available for 16mm films) |
|---|---|---|
When you are ready to see your broadcast, tune your TV to the assigned channel. Call ext. 15103. Our student assistants will answer. Give them your last name and channel number. STAY ON THE PHONE UNTIL YOU GET PICTURE AND SOUND. We can usually fix any problems over the phone. |
We have a computer which we program to start your show automatically at the time you specify. You will need to turn the TV on to the assigned channel at your specified time. |
You can remotely control our equipment from your classroom to stop, start, fast forward or rewind videotapes, laser discs and DVDs. Your classroom must have a touch tone phone for this to work. We have a list in our office of which rooms have touch tone phones. Here are the essential "Telephone Control" instructions: 1. When you schedule your broadcast, tell us you want "telephone control." The media number is five digits. 6. The computer will answer with your channel number. Example: "Channel 42, Channel 42" 7. Press 2, then the # key to play. If that's all you want to do, hang up the phone. 8. More advanced controls can be found listed on the instruction sheet or on a sticker on the phone in the classroom. |
