From basic writing skills to advanced computations, from Accounting to Zoology, there are many ways to obtain one-on-one and small group tutoring assistance and academic support. Click on the services above for more information.

COMMUNITY ACCESS & RETENTION PROGRAM

The Community Access & Retention Program is dedicated to providing academic support to undergraduate students. With a trained and qualified staff of tutors, we offer free evening tutorial services to students in remedial courses as well as undergraduate General Education courses. Tutoring is available Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 9:30pm in HSS 219. You can contact the CARP office at 405-0316.

Services:

At CARP, tutors work one-on-one and in small groups with students on a variety of skills they need to develop. The primary focus of our program is to provide tutorial support for students enrolled in remedial courses, most undergraduate math courses, or science courses, primarily chemistry, biology and astronomy, and to help develop reading, writing and study skills. CARP also provides academic support for many students taking upper-division courses.

With their tutors, students develop specific and active reading strategies: pre-reading, annotationg, finding main ideas, guessing vocabulary, as well as how to read textbooks and other assignments effectively.

Tutors assist students with time-management, study schedules, organization, and lecture note taking. Although the LAC does not provide preparation for tests such as ELM or JEPET, students can brush up on their test taking skills.

Drop-in tutoring hours and one-on-one sessions are available for students registered in Math 59,60, and 70 and other math courses. The LAC also offers tutoring for all GE statistics courses. For ILP math tutorial information, click on I.L.P. services or call 338-1645.
