Regular
vs. Open University
There are two ways to enroll in Summer
Semester, continuing and newly admitted students must enroll through
regular summer semester. Individuals who are not eligible to enroll
through regular summer semester may enroll through Open University.
Regular summer registration begins in early April. SFSU does not mail
registration notices. Students should check their eligibility and
priority registration day and time on MySFSU.
Eligible students include:
- All continuing SFSU students
- Newly admitted freshmen and second
baccalaureate students
- Eligible transfer students with completed
transcript files
- Newly admitted graduate students
Students who have applied for May graduation but
still need to take summer classes will not automatically receive a
summer registration appointment. Please visit the One Stop Student
Services Center after March 30 in order to take Summer classes.
Students will not be denied participation in the graduation ceremony by
requesting Summer Registration.
Transfer students who have not met all the admission requirements may
register through Open University during Summer. If they are
subsequently admitted, they have the option of remaining in Open
University status or switching their registration and fees to regular
status, as long as the request to switch is made by the add/drop
deadline for the session in which they are enrolled.
International applicants may register for Open University courses
during Summer if they have not been officially admitted for Fall.
Non-SFSU students may enroll through the Open University program in the
College of Extended Learning. To register for Open University, call
(415) 405-4321. If you have never registered through the College of
Extended Learning, first call (415) 405-7700 to set up a
pre-registration record.
