How do I initialize my PAC number?
You can call the Touch
Tone registration system at 338-7000 or initialize your PAC number online. You will need
to provide your social security number and your birth date; then select
a four-digit Personal Access Code that you’ll remember and enter it.

How can I reset my PAC number?
You must go to the One Stop
Student Services Center (SS 101), show your photo ID, and they will
clear out your old PAC number. At that point you can initialize a new
number by calling 338-7000 or go online.

How do I register?
Registration at SFSU is done through Web Registration or
calling Touch Tone at 338-7000. Complete instructions on registering are
available at the Register For
Classes web site or in the current class schedule.

When do I pay my fees?
Your fees are due by the Priority Fee
Payment date listed on your Registration Time. You must pay at
least one week before your Priority
Registration date. You will not be allowed to register until you pay
your fees. If you have questions on fee payment options, please call the
Cashier’s Office at 415-338-1281.

When is Priority Registration?
Approximately two to eight
weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. Please refer to your Registration
Time for your exact day and time (For all Priority/Open

What are Action Codes?
Action codes are what you use to
perform an action via Touch Tone
registration. For example, press 2 to register for a class and Press 3
to drop a class. A full listing of the action codes are listed in the
current class schedule or refer to the Action Codes list in the Register For Your
Classes site.

How is my Priority Registration date determined?
Priority
Registration dates are determined by class level. The number of units
completed by the end of the semester prior to the one in which you
received your Registration Time determines your Priority Registration
date and time.

How long do I have to finish my remedial courses?
If you
currently need to take remedial courses for either the MATH or ENGLISH
requirements, you have up to one year to complete all necessary courses.

What can I do online?
A wide variety of dynamic services
are available to SFSU students via the web. Utilizing SFSU’s Student
Information Service, students may access the following information:
Grades, Class Schedule, Unofficial Transcript, Local Address Changes,
Baccalaureate Degree Application, Test Score Transcripts, Financial
Statements and Course Availability. Students may also change their PAC
numbers. To access the Student Information Service, students must have
their social security number and a valid PAC number (see PAC Numbers
for more information).

A wide variety of forms may be completed and printed directly from
the web. These forms include the Baccalaureate Degree Application,
Transcript Request, Change of Major, and Withdrawal Petitions. Simply
complete the form online, print it out, and submit it to the appropriate

How do I change my address?
Students may change their address
in person or online.
To change your address in person, please visit One Stop Student Services
Center (SS 101) and complete a Change of Address form.

How do I change my name with the University?
In order to
change your name with the University, a student must obtain a Name
Change Request Form from the One Stop Student Services Center (SS 101).
Upon submission of this form with proper photo identification, your name
will be changed.

How do I view my academic records online?
Students may view
their academic records (including current schedule, unofficial
transcript, and financial statements) online via the web or at any of
the SFSU kiosks located throughout the campus. To view academic
information, students must have their social security number and a valid
PAC number (see PAC Numbers
for more information).

PRIVACY/DISCLOSURE OF STUDENT RECORDS
(FERPA)
What are my privacy rights as a student?
All student records
at San Francisco State University are kept in accordance with the
provision of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The
University defines as "directory information" and normally makes public
only the following information from a student's record: student's name,
major field of study, dates of attendance, student level, enrollment
status (e.g. undergraduate or graduate; full-time or part-time), degrees
earned, honors and awards received. The University does not release any
other information, including courses, grades, addresses and telephone
numbers to the general public unless a student requests it.
Two special provisions are available to students:
You can request that any or all of the above listed "directory
information" not be made public under the provisions of FERPA. (See How do I have
my records restricted? for more information)
You can request that non-directory information, including your
address, be released to agencies of the State of California when
requested for employment recruitment purposes under the provisions of
Assembly Bill 771 (Chacon). (See Verifications
for more information)
To request either of these provisions, submit your written request to
the One Stop Student Services Center (SS 101). Refer to the current Management of
Student Records at San Francisco State University for the complete

How do I have my records restricted?
A student may elect
to have access to their record restricted. Once a record is restricted,
absolutely no information will be made available to any parties
regarding the student. Should the student wish to view or change their
record (such as an address change), they will have to contact a
supervisor in person at the Registrar's Office. Please contact the
Registrar's Office at (415) 338-2350 for more information.

RECORDS/GRADES
If I repeat a course I failed, will the first grade be deleted?
No, both grades will be averaged into your GPA.

How do I sign up for CR/NC?
Instructors will have a FOURTH
WEEK CLASS LIST that students should sign and indicate their choice for
the CR/NC grading option. Some classes do not offer CR/NC as an option.
Please verify with the instructor which grading options are available
for the class. Check the current class schedule for the deadline
date.

How do I transfer units to SFSU after I’ve been admitted to SFSU?
You must send an official transcript from the institution you
completed work at to be evaluated by SFSU. Please address all
transcripts to:

Does a "W" grade affect my GPA?
No, a "W" grade is a
non-punitive grade and does not count towards your GPA.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE-POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Can I take a semester off?
Provided that you attended the
first semester you were admitted, and you have not graduated, you may
take a semester off. During your semester off, you will still receive
registration information for the following semester.

What is an Educational Leave of Absence?
Educational Leaves
of Absence are granted to students who are pursuing an off-campus
educational experience that is significantly beneficial to her/his
academic program and will be gone for two semesters or more. You may not
use an Educational Leave of Absence as a means to matriculate at another
institution.

GRADUATION/COMMENCEMENT
How do I apply for graduation?
Around the beginning of the
semester in which you plan to graduate, you must fill out a graduation
application. Applications and deadline dates are available at the One
Stop Student Services Center (SS 101). You may also download an
application from our website at https://www.sfsu.edu/~admisrec/gradapp/ga.htm
The application fee is $40 for first-time applicants and $10 for
re-applicants.

How do I get tickets and cap and gown for the commencement
ceremony?
Shortly after applying for your award of degree, the
Commencement Office will mail you an information packet containing
information on how to obtain cap, gown, and tickets for the ceremony.
